Job Announcement Closed Overview Position: Supervisory Museum Curator (GS‑13) – Lyndon B. Johnson Presidential Library and Museum, National Archives and Records Administration, Austin, TX. Salary: $96,485–$125,428 per year. Appointment type: Permanent, Full‑time. Travel required (occasional). Responsibilities Be responsible for the planning, formulation, design, construction, and installation of exhibits. Work with other staff members in developing themes and topics for new exhibits. Perform research in the holdings of the Library and select textual, audiovisual, and museum objects for display to ensure a balanced, informative, and attractive exhibit. Evaluate museum objects offered as gifts to the Library and recommend acceptance or rejection of the gifts by the Director. Some offered items are of great monetary value and/or historical significance while others may have only an associational value. Establish and monitor a system of registration and cataloging of museum objects. Registration includes assigning a serial number to each item, recording the type and identity of the specific object, the donor or other source, and any other pertinent data required for care, study, identification, and location of objects. Have supervisory responsibility including direction and evaluation of work performance of all Museum staff. Supervise managerial and administrative activities of the museum including budget, personnel, space management, procurement, and security. Set technical policies for the museum's operation. Qualifications Specialized Experience (GS‑12 equivalent): Supervising or leading a team or project in museum programs, such as designing and installing exhibits. Conducting collections‑based research or management regarding items such as proper care, registration, and documentation of objects and 3‑dimensional museum objects. Supporting exhibits and presentations using museum collections, while demonstrating knowledge of recent U.S. history and the institutions of the Federal Government; e.g., representing the museum to the press or giving exhibit and museum tours. Education Requirements: Degree in museum work, or in an applicable subject‑matter field. Alternatively, a combination of education and experience equivalent to a four‑year college degree in a related field. Other Requirements: U.S. Citizenship or U.S. National status. Public Trust background investigation required. Background investigation and suitability check required. Must successfully complete a probationary period and supervisory or managerial probationary period (if applicable). Must obtain and use a Government‑issued charge card for business‑related travel. Must file a Confidential Financial Disclosure Report 30 days after appointment, and annually thereafter. Note: This job announcement has closed.
