Position:  Therapeutic Companion/Live-In Coach

Department: Aging Services

Status:  PRN, part-time  (Non-exempt)

Location: Massachusetts

Compensation: $25 - $35 per hour, daily compensation can range from $600 - $1000 per day depending on client needs. Cases will typically be no less than 1-month engagements.

With over 400 clinical and operational employees located across the country with a vast spectrum of specialties, we can provide clinical support to clients in their homes and virtually in the form of therapeutic coaching, family coaching, care management for aging adults, care management, therapeutic companions, interventions, mental health transports, and behavioral health navigation. Our team consists of (but is not limited to) licensed social workers, drug and alcohol counselors, consultants, clinical psychologists, RNs, and care managers. The clients we are serve are amongst all ages, all spectrums of mental and behavioral health, and are typically within the high-net-worth and ultra-high-net-worth space.  

Who you are:

You are professional, dependable, and able to tailor your therapeutic approach according to each client’s specific needs. You are dedicated to the client’s well-being, understand the importance of confidentiality and discretion, and are adept at managing crises while remaining calm and focused. You are comfortable working short-term engagements within a long-term rotation of other professionals. You have experience working with older adults and are comfortable supporting individuals with a range of behavioral health diagnoses. The ideal companion candidate is adept at working independently while also thriving with supervision and guidance, and is comfortable working in a live-in environment. 

What you’ll do:

  • Coaching and crisis management for individuals with neurocognitive challenges and behavioral health diagnoses within their home and community environment. 
  • Providing exposure to positive activities in the community.
  • Modeling healthy and therapeutic boundaries.
  • Modeling healthy coping and daily living skills.
  • Providing psychoeducation related to the client’s diagnoses, substance use, and medication management.
  • Observation of the client’s behaviors (i.e. dietary, sleep, leisure, etc.)
  • Facilitating efficient, courteous, and respectful communication between treatment team, client, client’s family, companion supervisor, and family coach.
  • Creating short and long-term client goal plans; daily documentation of progress.
  • Providing connections to community resources, treatment options, peer counselors, and AA/self-help meetings.
  • Input detailed case notes, time, and expenses in a timely manner.

What you’ll bring:

  • One year or more of experience working as a therapeutic companion, home health aid, or mental health clinician.
  • Experience with older adults.
  • Experience with dementia and neurocognitive disorders.
  • Experience and knowledge in behavioral health diagnoses. 
  • Ability to calmly, flexibly, and efficiently manage client crises as they arise.
  • Comfortable working live-in shifts lasting 2-4 weeks, with engagements usually extending a month or longer.
  • Valid driver’s license with a safe driving record.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as well as independently.
  • Knowledge of mental health diagnoses and behavioral health treatments.
  • Comfort and quick learning curve with technology on day-to-day tasks (i.e. Microsoft Office, Salesforce).

Nice to have (but not required):

  • Knowledge of Healthcare systems, especially in Massachusetts and New England. 
  • Experience working live-in shifts.
  • Experience working with high-net-worth families.
  • Associate’s or college degree.
  • Professional licensure (i.e. RN, LMSW, LMHC, LMFT).

This position is part-time and PRN only, and hours are not guaranteed per week. This position is for live-in or transport assignments. Therapeutic Companions/Live-In Coaches on our staff list are contacted on an as-needed basis for cases as they arise.
