TIME COMMITMENT:
Part-time (10 - 20 hours / week); hiring for all locations

Required: Ability to work at least two Saturdays each month, one or two closing shifts (to 8:30 PM) each week, and have availability during school breaks

Position Summary: The Associate will support operations at Overflow Thrift Stores by accepting donations, processing donations, assisting customers to make purchases, operating the cash register, stocking inventory, maintaining the cleanliness and organization of the store, and exhibiting a positive attitude in all interactions with customers, staff and volunteers. The Associate will collaborate with staff and volunteers to create a retail environment that is clean, cute, creative and uncluttered.

    1. Follow attendance procedures; arrive to the building with enough time to allow for storing personal items, filling personal drinks, greeting team mates, etc., and be ready to start work when clocking in on time (at the time scheduled to begin work)
    2. Adhere to Overflow Handbook, policies and procedures
    3. Demonstrate excellent productivity in tasks and throughout shift
    4. Work with diligence and focus when clocked in - for example:
      1. seek out tasks to complete - discuss with team mates or Directors about priority tasks; look for cleaning, tidying and stocking tasks to complete, especially when working at the registers
      2. refrain from personal cell phone use, eating, personal shopping, and other personal entertainment activities (socializing, reading, games, etc.)
      3. complete shift breaks and meal breaks within allotted time (15 minutes / 30 minutes)
      4. be prepared to begin tasks as soon as clocked in (personal items are stored, personal drinks are filled, etc.; i.e., ready to start work when you clock in)

Position Key Responsibilities

  1. Complete daily tasks under the direction of Store Operations Directors
  2. Provide excellent customer service
    1. Answer customer questions in a manner consistent with the stores mission and values
    2. Engage with donors proactively and respectfully
    3. Encounter all stakeholders with kindness
  3. Complete daily tasks as assigned
    1. Complete daily cleaning to assure the store remains tidy and clutter-free
    2. Complete daily productivity checklist
    3. Operate cash register to complete customer sales
      1. Adhere to OTS Pricing and Discount Policy
    4. Assist donors as they donate items, including carrying boxes and bags, assisting with carrying furniture, pushing carts of donated material, etc.
    5. Sort donations as instructed. Move items into trash or recycling, when appropriate. Remove trash to the exterior dumpster.
    6. Assist with creating attractive, engaging displays, as directed
    7. Follow and assist department processes for sorting, pricing and stocking product
    8. Complete opening and closing tasks, including cash drawer management, when assigned
  4. Serve as an ambassador to OTS volunteers - creating an environment of appreciation for our volunteers while supporting volunteers to achieve the OTS mission
  1. Collaborate with volunteers on assigned work priorities
  2. Communicate with volunteers with kindness, respect and appreciation
  3. Participate in planned volunteer trainings, groups, and appreciation as scheduled
  4. Utilize training and pricing guides for volunteer onboarding, as directed by Directors

Position Requirements

  1. Ability to lift 30 pounds and 60 pounds in a team lift occasionally
  2. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with continuous standing, carrying, bending, squatting, pulling, and pushing
    1. This is a physically active role - Associates should expect to be standing and moving 95% of their shifts. The work includes cleaning the store (mopping, sweeping, cleaning restrooms, dusting), cleaning merchandise, moving boxes and merchandise repeatedly, pushing heavy carts, moving displays, etc.
  3. Ability to work outside for brief periods in all weather on a variety of tasks such as assisting donors as they remove items from their vehicles, removing trash from the store to exterior dumpsters, helping customers with furniture pick-ups, light shoveling of snow from sidewalks, etc.
  4. Ability to work two Saturdays each month, and two to four close shifts (to 6:30 PM) each week.
