California Requirements - Education, Qualifications, and Compliance:

- Must meet ONE of the following ESSA (Every Student Succeeds Act) federal compliance requirements: An Associates Degree or higher OR 48 college units and a High School Diploma OR passing of CBEST and a high school diploma OR passing of the instructional aide exam and high school diploma.

- Unofficial transcripts are acceptable for application purposes; official transcripts will be required upon offer of employment.
- Fingerprinting and background check clearance through the California Department of Justice (DOJ) and the FBI required prior to beginning employment.
-TB (tuberculosis) test clearance required as mandated by California Education Code.
- CPR and First Aid certification, or willingness to obtain within the probationary period is recommended..
- Bilingual candidates are encouraged to apply; some positions may require demonstrated ability to communicate in a language in addition to English.
- Prior experience working with children or individuals with disabilities in any setting (paid or volunteer) is preferred but not required.

Typical Job Duties
- Assist the supervising special education teacher in delivering instruction to students with disabilities in classroom and other school settings
- Support students in implementing IEP goals and accommodations as directed by the supervising teacher
- Provide one-on-one or small group instructional support to students with a range of disabilities including autism, intellectual disabilities, emotional/behavioral disorders, and learning disabilities
- Assist students with personal care needs such as feeding, toileting, mobility, and hygiene as required by the student's IEP
- Implement behavior support plans and positive behavioral strategies under the direction of the supervising teacher
- Collect and record data on student behavior, progress, and attendance as directed
- Accompany and supervise students during transitions, lunch, recess, and community-based activities
- Assist in the preparation and organization of instructional materials and classroom activities
- Communicate regularly with the supervising teacher regarding student progress, concerns, and daily observations
- Maintain accurate records and documentation in compliance with district and federal requirements
- Participate in required trainings, professional development, and IEP meetings as directed.
