SPANISH INTERPRETER / TRANSLATOR POSITION SUMMARY

We are seeking a skilled Spanish Translator to join our team at Sussex Correctional Institution! In this role, you will provide critical language support by facilitating effective communication between Spanish-speaking individuals and staff. Your work will facilitate accurate and confidential interpretation of verbal and written communication in a correctional environment, ensuring compliance with all facility policies and security protocols.

SPANISH INTERPRETER / TRANSLATOR RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide real-time verbal and written translation between English and Spanish for staff and residents.
  • Translate documents, forms, and written communications as needed.
  • Assist during interviews, orientations, medical evaluations, and mental health sessions.
  • Maintain confidentiality and accuracy when interpreting sensitive or legal information.
  • Support clear communication to promote safety, compliance, and understanding within the facility.
  • Collaborate with medical, administrative, and security staff to ensure smooth communication flow.

SPANISH INTERPRETER / TRANSLATOR MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS & SKILLS .

  • Superior verbal and written communication skills in English and Spanish
  • Excellent listening skills and auditory recall to remember spoken words and to accurately reproduce them in Spanish.
  • Ability to appropriately understand and respond to culturally sensitive situations, perspectives, and phrases.
  • Ability to work well under pressure and in intense situations.
