Position Summary
The MEP Engineer is responsible for supporting the design, construction, commissioning, operation, and maintenance of Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MEP) systems for commercial, industrial, and mission-critical facilities. The position works closely with project managers, consultants, contractors, vendors, and facility operations teams to ensure MEP systems are designed, installed, tested, and maintained in accordance with project requirements, engineering standards, safety regulations, and applicable building codes.
The MEP Engineer assists in project execution throughout the facility lifecycle, including planning, design review, construction support, commissioning, troubleshooting, and operational improvements.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Engineering and Design Support
· Assist in the development and review of MEP system designs, specifications, and construction documents.
· Review engineering drawings, technical submittals, shop drawings, and equipment specifications for compliance with project requirements.
· Support the preparation of Basis of Design (BOD) documents and technical standards.
· Coordinate with architects, consultants, contractors, and project stakeholders during design and construction phases.
· Evaluate energy-efficient solutions and support sustainability initiatives.
Construction and Project Support
· Monitor construction activities to ensure compliance with approved designs, specifications, and quality standards.
· Conduct site inspections and document construction progress.
· Assist with Requests for Information (RFIs), technical clarifications, and change management activities.
· Support equipment installation, testing, startup, and commissioning activities.
· Verify installed systems meet operational and performance requirements.
Operations and Maintenance Support
· Assist in troubleshooting mechanical, electrical, and plumbing system issues.
· Support facility operations teams in maintaining critical building infrastructure.
· Participate in preventive maintenance planning and reliability improvement initiatives.
· Investigate equipment failures and assist with Root Cause Analysis (RCA) activities.
· Support emergency response activities involving facility infrastructure systems.
Documentation and Compliance
· Maintain engineering documentation, drawings, equipment records, and operational procedures.
· Ensure compliance with applicable building codes, safety regulations, and engineering standards.
· Assist in preparing technical reports, commissioning reports, and project closeout documentation.
· Support audits, inspections, and regulatory compliance activities.
Required Qualifications
· Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Architectural Engineering, Construction Engineering, or a related field.
· 2–5 years of experience in MEP engineering, building systems, construction, facilities engineering, or related disciplines.
· Basic understanding of HVAC, electrical power distribution, plumbing, fire protection, and building automation systems.
· Knowledge of construction practices, engineering principles, and project coordination.
· Familiarity with applicable building codes and industry standards.
· Experience with commercial buildings, industrial facilities, healthcare facilities, laboratories, or data centers.
· Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification or progress toward Professional Engineer (PE) licensure.
· Experience with AutoCAD, Revit, Bluebeam, Visio, or similar engineering software.
· Familiarity with Building Management Systems (BMS), Electrical Power Monitoring Systems (EPMS), or Data Center Infrastructure Management (DCIM) tools.
· Experience supporting commissioning and startup activities.
· Understanding of MEP systems and facility infrastructure.
· Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.
· Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications.
· Strong organizational and documentation skills.
· Effective verbal and written communication skills.
· Ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams.
· Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet project deadlines.
· Travel: Up to 30% as required
