Job Description

About Ergon Construction

Ergon Construction is a self-performing general contractor specializing in interior finishing systems. Where most builders broker the work out to subcontractors, our own craftsmen demo, frame, hang, finish, paint, trim, and tile the spaces we deliver, from ground-up new construction to complex renovations on commercial, healthcare, and federal projects. Building with our own hands is how we control quality, schedule, and safety, and it is why we invest in the people who do the building. Every craftsman at Ergon has a defined career path, from Apprentice through Master Craftsman and into field leadership, with structured performance reviews, training, and advancement. We hire people who take pride in their work and intend to keep getting better at it.

Job Summary

As a Craftsman II, you will perform skilled interior finishing work with limited supervision on new construction and renovation projects, setting the standard for quality and pace on site. You will take your daily assignments from the Working Foreman, help guide junior craftsmen at the task level, and build toward Craftsman III. This is a safety sensitive position.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform the full range of interior finishing work with limited supervision: selective demolition, framing, hanging and finishing drywall, paint prep and painting, insulation, doors and frames, trim and millwork, and tile setting.

  • Work from drawings and finish schedules, laying out your own work and getting it right the first time.

  • Help guide Apprentice and Craftsman I teammates at the task level as directed by the Working Foreman.

  • Load, unload, and stage materials, equipment, and tools; keep work areas stocked, swept, and organized.

  • Stay productive between assignments: when a task wraps up, move to the next one without waiting to be told.

  • Work safely, speak up about hazards, and help secure the site, tools, and stored materials at the end of each day.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 5+ years of hands-on experience in interior construction trades (e.g., carpentry, drywall, paint, tile, or related finish work).

  • High School Diploma or GED.

  • Valid Driver's License is required.

  • Willingness and ability to travel to project sites as assigned. Travel varies by project: some work is local to the Oklahoma City metro, while other projects require short- or long-term overnight assignments (per diem provided).

  • Own set of standard personal hand tools. Ergon furnishes power tools, equipment, and PPE, and provides a tool allowance.

  • Reliable and punctual. Consistent, on-time attendance is a firm expectation. The crew's daily plan depends on every member being there.

  • Ability to read and work from drawings and finish schedules.

  • Self-directed. Able to keep a productive pace without close supervision and take initiative on the next task.

  • Keen attention to detail and professional communication with the crew, the Working Foreman, the Site Superintendent, and clients.

  • Physical Demands : Must be able to perform Heavy Work , exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally , and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Must be able to frequently walk about the jobsite, climb, stoop, reach, and grasp. Must be able to safely wear a respirator and pass applicable medical/fit testing examination.

  • Employment Offers are Contingent upon successful completion of:

    • Verification of work authorization and employment eligibility.

    • Substance abuse screening.

    • NCIC III background checks for security clearances.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience performing construction layout.

  • OSHA 10/30 Certification.

  • Experience working on federal government projects and familiarity with their specific safety and quality control requirements.

Compensation & Benefits:

  • Hourly Rate: TBD. Full-time, non-exempt W-2 employment, paid weekly.

  • Overtime: Hours worked over 40 in a workweek are paid at 1.5x the base hourly rate.

  • Holidays: The Company observes the eleven (11) federal holidays and job sites are typically closed on those days. Any hours actually worked on an observed holiday are paid at 2x the base hourly rate.

  • Benefits include:

    • Tool allowance.

    • Per diem for overnight travel assignments, at U.S. General Services Administration rates.

    • Structured training and professional development, with advancement through the craft ladder, from Apprentice to Master Craftsman, driven by regular performance reviews.

    • A real path upward: strong performers advance into field leadership, first as Working Foreman (hourly, with a foreman premium) and then into salaried site leadership as Site Superintendent and beyond.

Employment Type: Full Time
Years Experience: 3 - 5 years
Salary: $20 - $28 Hourly
Bonus/Commission: No
