Job Description

Assistant Coach, Men's Basketball

Assists the Head Coach in all aspects of running an NCAA Division III Basketball program by teaching and coaching student athletes, recruiting highly selective high school senior athletes, developing and implementing game strategies, and leading physical training and practice organization.

Responsibilities
  • Direct the work of student workers and volunteer assistant coaches.
  • Serve on departmental committees. Represent the University of Chicago in professional, alumni, and civic functions.
  • Comply with institutional, University Athletic Association, and NCAA rules and regulations.
  • Extensive domestic travel required.
  • Secondary departmental responsibilities will be assigned by the Athletic Director.
  • All of your coaching staff are required to drive for recruiting purpose.
  • Has a moderate/high level of authority to participate in staff meetings, individual planning meetings, and parent-student staffings.
  • Helps staff to plan and execute events.
  • Performs other related work as needed.
Minimum Qualifications

Education:

Minimum requirements include a college or university degree in related field.

Work Experience:

Minimum requirements include knowledge and skills developed through 2-5 years of work experience in a related job discipline.

Preferred Qualifications

Education:

  • Master's degree.

Experience:

  • Minimum of two years of significant and relevant playing or teaching/coaching experience in Men's Basketball at the professional, collegiate, or high school level.
  • Familiarity with NCAA rules and Division III philosophy.

Certifications:

  • CPR/First Aid certification (may be fulfilled upon employment).
  • Valid Driver's License.

Technical Knowledge or Skills:

  • Proficient in computer skills; Microsoft Office Suite and other software.

Preferred Competencies:

  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to handle multiple tasks and assignments concurrently.
  • Embracing and understanding the importance of diversity and inclusion on teams and at the University.
Working Conditions
  • Must be able to work evenings and weekends as required.
